School is Fucking Hard

Period.

True Confession

I'm getting the evil eye from my fellow library studiers.  I'm studying with a friend in the library and we are talking.  Karma is a bitch.  (See yesterday's post - Irritations)

Irritations

When people use clearly marked quiet areas in the library for group study.

When I look at a math equation that I have done a hundred times
successfully, and I can't make heads or tails of it.

When the cafeteria runs out of gluten-free, no-bake cookies
and I am in want of a sugar high.

Dead Week

Whooot, I want to write again!  For the first time in a long time, I woke up early this morning with multiple ideas tumbling through my brain of things I want to write.  Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of dead week and so I'm up to my eyeballs in finals.  No time to write now, but the feeling is sweet and I hadn't realized I missed it.

It seems an odd statement given I am just finishing up a creative non fiction writing class.  I have loved this class and this teacher and these classmates.  Ending a semester is bittersweet for those tentative friendships that will most likely not last into the future without the structure of common homework goals, and joint efforts of figuring out the logistics of a syllabus/testing/teacher expectations of a particular class.  And trust me, no two classes/syllabus/testing/teacher expectations are the same.  It's a war zone out there folks.  Survival goes to the fittest, and often is hard won only with a group effort, which often consists of conversations starting with statements such as, "Where in Blackboard did you find that?", "I can't get this embedded in Digication, can you help me?", "What was that she said about our final group Global Issues project that's worth a million points? I can't make sense of my notes!"

Before you know it, the frenzy of dead week comes and goes and then, silence.  And all those people and classrooms and dynamics are gone.  Never to return in exactly that same configuration again.  After four semesters, I get it.  And so this time around, I'm trying to enjoy the last moments with these people and these topics.  Beyond the madness of finals, I'm savoring it all.

Radio Podcast: MLP Tarot Deck

My guest on 3/27/16 was Gabe who, at the ripe old age of 20, decided to try to paint.  And while he was at it, decided to make a Tarot deck using the MLP characters.  Impressive.  For those of us not in The Know, like myself, MLP is My Little Pony-fourth generation.  You can check out his art on the show's Facebook page.

My first radio talk show podcast!

Where to start?  One day I'm posting flyers on campus for the Women's Spirit Drum Circle (the Boise State University organization I started last fall).  I look over, and there is a flyer that catches my eye.  It has that energetic glow, when Spirit is trying to get my attention and say, "Here's the next step".  I read the flyer and said out loud, "You have got to be kidding me!"

Fast forward a couple of months, and I have gone through the training period.  I am now producing my own radio talk show on BSU student radio, University Pulse.  It's called All Things Woo Woo, and I love it more than I could ever have imagined.  I can honestly say that never once in my life, have I ever had even a fleeting thought of, "Gee, I'd like to have my own radio show some day."  Never once.  This is what happens when we follow our intuition, even though it seems like the craziest idea EVER.

So, here's my first recorded show.  Be kind and forgive the glitches as I'm really in the learning curve here.  I was trying to record it with Garage Band and I locked up the whole system, which I had to reboot - during the show!  That would be my fault, and not that of Garage Band, which works perfectly well.  I've also forgotten to turn on my mic a couple of times, but who's counting.  My suggestion, fast forward past the dead air space and know that I am getting better at this...honest.
