#1. Susan Teaches - Discernment: Practical Methods to Know Truth - Introduction & Definition (WRITTEN Classet Series)
Each of us has the ability to discern truth. It requires paying attention to what is happening around us and paying attention to our intuition within. Here are some practical methods to do just that.
How do we know what is true? How do we make decisions in our lives? All humans are intuitive. If indeed, that statement is true, how does it work? And how do we already use it? Can we deepen these abilities to better navigate our lives? How can we make decisions (large and small) and feel confident that they are correct?
The ability to do this is not limited to a certain, special few. It stems from intuition which is a natural human trait. Unfortunately, many of us were not trained on how to use this universal knowing. In this classet, we will tap into our natural, intuitive abilities to help us discover what is true.
Let’s start with the definition of Discernment. Basically, it means the ability to judge well. But it also means to search out. So, not just the ability to come up with the right answer, but the process of getting to that right answer. Here are some other definitions of Discernment:
Discover
Bring to light
Discrimination
Perception
Insight
A power to see what is not evident to the average mind.
The ability to perceive and distinguish. It grows as we grow in knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and maturity.
Discernment stresses accuracy.
It’s our ability to know whether God is leading us in one direction or another (according to how you perceive God/Higher Power).
Discernment is both a gift of the Spirit and a skill we can cultivate.
Next month we will talk about the importance of knowing truth. Is it important? You might be surprised to know the answer to that question will vary from person to person.
And don’t forget, an extended version of this classet is available with a paid subscription in podcast form with more material and a guided meditation on the monthly topic.
