When people use clearly marked quiet areas in the library for group study.

When I look at a math equation that I have done a hundred times
successfully, and I can't make heads or tails of it.

When the cafeteria runs out of gluten-free, no-bake cookies
 and I am in want of a sugar high.

What I know now, that I did not know then, is that when we get quiet our demons arise. Any unresolved emotional wounds come roaring up. This is why many of us back away from meditation - it’s no fun at first! But this is actually a good thing because it allows us to become self aware of what’s inside (and running the show). Until we know what’s in there, we can’t do anything about it. And our demons will continue to make bad decisions for us as we go through life.
