#4. Susan Teaches - Discernment: Practical Methods to Know Truth - A Practical Application of Discernment in the Decision-Making Process (WRITTEN Classet Series)
Each of us has the ability to discern truth. It requires paying attention to what is happening around us and paying attention to our intuition within. Here are some practical methods to do just that.
Last month we talked about our Truth Teller List. Who and what are our sources of information? At what standard are we holding our Truth Tellers to and why?
This month we ask the question, “Ought the practice of discernment be practical?” In other words, how are we using our intuitive, discernment abilities in real life? Let us consider the decision-making process.
What is your decision-making process? Do you have one? Spoiler Alert, we all have one! The question then becomes, are we conscious of it? Making our decisions without awareness can lead to disaster.
Part of a decision-making process can include fact-finding. Do you conduct reach of any kind on the subject you are considering? Where do you go to for that information? How deep do you dive and does that differ depending on the situation? For example, are you diving too deep in one area (perhaps because you enjoy the subject matter), and spend too little time ferreting out the facts in other areas (because you detest the subject matter and you just want to get to your conclusion and be done with it)? That’s all understandable but be honest with yourself. How is your research process benefiting the outcome? If it’s working, great. If not, perhaps it’s time to reconsider.
Another point to think about is where you are getting your facts from. What people/places/organization/sources are you going to? How is that panning out for you? Again, if it’s consistently working for you, great. If not… you get the picture.
Check back to Classet #3. Who is on Your Truth Teller List, and Why? for ideas on how to clarify and possibly purge your resource list for better fact-finding results.
Next month we are going deeper with a simple exercise to help you fine-tune your decision-making process.
And don’t forget, an extended version of this classet is available with a paid subscription in podcast form with more material and a guided meditation on the monthly topic.
